Dress Up and Cheer Up!
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably very much aware of how everybody around the world has been… well… living under a rock. Kidding aside, COVID-19 has really forced all of us to make drastic changes in our daily lives, and that includes working from home.
Now, for most people who are new to this arrangement, the thought of being in your pajamas all day would be nothing short of amazing. Easy breezy sweatpants (or no pants!), what could be better? As we are now months into trying to stay home as much as possible, most of us are slowly beginning to realize that our love affair with pajamas is not all it’s cracked up to be. In fact, studies show that wearing PJs all day could be weighing us down.
Did you know that what you wear actually affects how you feel? While we may feel most comfortable in our PJs, if you’re in them 24/7, the distinction between work and rest becomes virtually nonexistent and you subconsciously revert to “rest mode” even when you aren’t supposed to. Soon enough, the stay-at-home vacation you always dreamed of starts to feel more like house arrest. You’re never in the proper mindset to be productive and you get stuck in a rut of demotivation.
But don’t worry… unlike most of the challenges that 2020 has hurled at us, we can resolve this rather easily: just get dressed!
It turns out that getting ready after waking up… taking a shower, putting on a new change of clothes, and going about our usual routines is a crucial step to psych us up for the day to get things done. Now, this doesn’t mean that you literally have to put on your stuffy work clothes. The mere act of changing into a new set of non-sleepwear clothes does the trick. It’s all about nurturing and maintaining your self-image even when no one else sees you because you see you!
Needless to say, a work-from-home outfit doesn’t have to follow a dress code. Do you have a lucky shirt, a skirt that you can’t help but do twirls in, or a pair of heels that make you feel like a million bucks? Any piece of clothing that sends out good vibrations will certainly do wonders for your productivity levels as well as your overall mood, especially in these difficult times. The best part about this is that there are no rules. Take this time to experiment with new or even crazy looks that you’ve always wanted to, but were never brave enough to try out. This is your chance to go all out! You won’t believe how much more fun dressing up can be when you’re doing it for yourself! But for those of you who aren’t completely off the hook because of video calls, remember that you only have to keep things formal from the waist up. Go ahead and bust out those thigh-high boots that [you've been saving for a special occasion] / [you never get to wear]… no one will know!
Negative thoughts can creep up on us when we’re home alone and unsure of the future. This is why it is more important than ever to do what we can to keep our positivity and sense of purpose alive. Let’s start with simple solutions like this that can add a little bit of fun to our day!
